About
The mission of Sage Canyon is to foster a supportive and challenging school community that fuels a contagious spark for learning and recognizes students as unique individuals.
Sage Canyon is proud to be a part of Colorado's Douglas County School District, where parents are provided the opportunity to choose the educational environment and programming that best meets their child's needs.
Here at Sage Canyon, we integrate a Project Based Learning approach to create a solid foundation of fundamental and higher order thinking skills through a structured curriculum that is consistent and aligned throughout the grade levels.
Project Based Learning (PBL) is a dynamic approach to teaching in which students explore real-world problems and challenges, simultaneously developing cross-curriculum skills while working in small collaborative groups. Because project-based learning is filled with active and engaged learning, it inspires students to obtain a deeper knowledge of the subjects they're studying.
Research also indicates that students are more likely to retain the knowledge gained through this approach far more readily than through traditional book-centered learning. In addition, students develop confidence and self-direction as they move through both team-based and independent work.
Throughout their time at Sage Canyon, students may have the opportunity to engage in projects such as creating businesses, creating different works of writing, learning about animal adaptions, growing vegetables, working with the town on bluebird boxes, learning about holidays around the world, and creating games for field day to name a few!
